Why Is Bill Gates Investing in Clean Meat?

Will kosher bacon cheeseburgers soon become reality? That’s what one prominent orthodox rabbi asserts about clean meat. But it’s hardly just those who keep kosher who are excited. CNBC reports today on clean meat, including Bill Gates’ reason for investing in it.
What’s the best name to call real meat from animal cells rather than animal slaughter? I offer some thoughts this week in a Washington Post commentary about why clean meat is similar to the ice in your freezer. (I also published a piece in the Washington Times on the recent news about the prospect of clean cannibalism…)
Finally, what happens when we have ample and effective alternatives to the use of animals? Well, we can see where things may be heading by reading the news in San Francisco this week, where the city council just voted unanimously to ban the sale of animal fur.
Have a nice weekend,
Paul
P.S. Video of the week: Dog gets busted and plays it cool.
