The Modern Multiplication of the Fishes?

Is the CEO of Finless Foods like Jesus? Well, he is multiplying the fish (cells) to feed the multitudes with clean fish. I make the case for this bearded Jew’s non-divine but still miraculous work this week in The Forward.

Will meat giants start seeing such endeavors as worthy of their investment? The Chicago Tribune this week reports on Tyson Foods’ move into plant-based and clean meats. Not all meat industry leaders are so enthused, though. One Chicago Tribune columnist hits the nail on the head with his beef about the beef industry’s efforts to prevent plant-based meats from using the term “meat.” (For example, are consumers duped into thinking apple butter is a dairy product?)

In the meantime, California’s two US Senators just introduced legislation to protect aquatic animals from indiscrimate nets used by fishermen. And in the UK, efforts are underfoot to try to ban boiling animals alive, including lobsters and crabs. May these bills succeed.

P.S. Video of the week: Think pigs are the only animals who like mud baths? Check these elephants out!
