Delving into Dairy’s Decline

Will dairy cows be turned out to pasture by plant-based milks?

The dairy industry’s in decline, with Americans drinking less and less cow’s milk each year. What’s the biggest dairy company doing to attempt a turnaround? Investing in plant-based milk.

Why has plant-based milk done so well? Well, one factor seems to be that it’s placed right next to cow’s milk in grocery stores. The same is starting to happen with some plant-based meat, as Forbes reports this week.

Similar trends are starting to occur in China, where the government’s policy of encouraging meat reduction does seem to be gaining some traction. In the U.S., however, some lawmakers are trying to stifle alt-protein innovation, as evidence by what happened with clean meat in Congress this week.

Finally, speaking of nefarious behavior in Congress, if you’ve not yet urged your Rep. to oppose the single greatest threat to animals at the federal level, now’s the time.

P.S. Video of the week: Are fish loyal to their friends? Watching this video leaves little doubt about it.
