Cool Science

Are plant-based meats about to explode in popularity the way plant-based milks did 10 years ago? Seems so, according to new research.
And one new plant protein company, The Better Meat Co., has an innovative strategy that a food journalist this week called “refreshingly realistic.” I chatted about our new company with Idea Mensch this week, so if you’re interested in my thoughts on early-stage entrepreneurship, persistence, and the best $100 I’ve spent recently, check it out.
As you already know, plant proteins are in, but clean meat (real meat grown from animal cells) is progressing, too. In fact, what cost hundreds of thousands of dollars to produce two years ago now costs only hundreds. However, there’s a new debate about what to call such meat, a topic I weighed in on this week.
Whatever you call it, the science is really cool. So cool, in fact, that it can save animals, as I discussed on Cool Science Radio this week, in a 30-minute live segment with the NPR affiliate.
Have a nice weekend,
Paul
